Happy Labor Day from your friends at the Monkey Island Association!

Dear Grand Fishing Report,

Labor Day Weekend 2009 has arrived and people are already arriving to celebrate!  Lots of cookouts, flotillas, watersports, parasailing or golf and night time fun on the agenda for one and all.  If you can't find anything to do this weekend you just aren't looking!

An annual event...the Great American Suckoff is all set for Sunday  afternoon inside Big Shots at 3pm.  Yes...I hear some former winners are planning to make the competition a real big suckin' deal!  If you have never attended this event put it on your list for this year friends.  It's one of my favorites... always good for some great laughs while the crew competes to see who can suck down that pasta noodle in record breaking time...you've just got to see it.  Yes, it does support the kids and the kritters!  I will put the flyer at the bottom of this eblast for details.

Of course there is more!  Anna's Bananas is all set for a big sports weekend.  Wii sports headquarters on the island, TUfootball Friday night, Sat boasts OU and OSU football and then their is the food!!!

Chef Harrell plans Oysters on the half shell, seafood gumbo (he is infamous for this dish) and bringing back stuffed chicken breast with apple pecan stuffing for this weekend by popular demand.  Last but not least the breakfast buffet will not just be Sat/Sun this week....Monday too! (You can always order off the menu at Anna's if buffet is not your thing.)

Armadillos plans a party weekend with Laid Back DJ Larry and will be open Sunday. The party rocks on!

Big Shots

has DJ Sway back by special invitation (and demand I might add) and the joint will be jumpin'.  Don't ya love a grand dance club??

Plus the Suckoff on Sunday of course.......

Island Joe's Kentena has cleared the decks for another grand holiday weekend. They are stocked and grillin' waiting for you to moor up for a little chillin' and have the following entertainment planned:  Fri- Denny Blackman live, Sat- Dennis Crouch Band live and Sun- DJ Ben Rotten & Karaoke.

Quarterdeck Cafe at Tera Miranda Harbor is open by land or lake for libations, fun, food and football this weekend and looking forward to seeing you.

Road Hog Saloon will be serving their famous sliders and Karaoke to boot on Sat night....you know the Roadhouse will be ready with specials as well.

Shebang has added a number of seafood specials of late and are flying in that fresh catch for you in addition to their already bodacious menu, ribs, pizza and a decadent Sunday brunch. Check out the Balcony Bar for libations and fun where Rick will be pouring and  I will be your Karaoke Queen all ready for you to be a Star on the Balcony bar

Rumor has it the Landings Marina at the airport plans to be open (at least in part) so cruise by and check them out!

American Folk Art is closing.  This weekend is the last hurrah friends so stop by and check out the grand sales and pick up your Monkey Island shirts/sweatshirts that do indeed benefit your own Monkey Island Assn at bargain prices!  After that move across to Cakes Arisen for sweets my sweet....my personal fav....Monkey Sticks...but I hear everyone knows that these days.  Have you tried them?  Eco friendly furniture in the cute shop next to the bakery but keep on going.  The Den of Uniquity is always loaded with goodies and this weekend is no exception.  The new accessories and hot, haute fashions are arriving daily.  (just gotta do it...they are wonderfully unique)  Creative Concepts is planning a big Labor Day Sales as a thank you from Dee and Michelle for this grand summer.  Don't ya just love Main Street Monkey Island?????

We haven't even talked about the businesses at the front of the Island waiting to see you arrive!  Littlefields Country Corner and Gene (the bodacious butcher) will be all smiles as usual and have your favorite items ready and waiting. ( I feel a rib and brisket craving coming on)

We now have 2 liquor stores to serve our own special island needs.

E & H next to Littlefields Sporting Goods (a must stop for big and little fish alike) and the Woodshed has their new shop open for biz.

Monkey Island Pottery Studio in Port of Entry Plaza is open for biz too.  Looking for an indoor activity, some solo time or a group event.  Stop by and paint or create your own pottery.   If nothing else..which I doubt...you will love the island decor.

Last but most assuredly not least.......The New Energy Wellness Center (in the medical plaza) has a Grand September Special.    Do  you want to train, know you would really benefit from a personal trainer but would have more fun training with someone you know?  They have the perfect training package for you - Personal Train with a Friend. You can get 8-sessions for only $250.00 per person!! It's cheaper to share the cost with a friend. The benefits of personal training are: receiving Individual instruction, learning proper technique and being held accountable. Get started on your exercise plan today!!!! HMMM....accountability from a friend and a great trainer......sounds like a plan. Haven't checked out this facility yet???? I would say you owe it to yourself.
