P
The Playmakers’ After-school Theatre
Training program begins its second year on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 311 Grand in the
Off Broadway Troupers building, with support from the Oklahoma Arts Council,
the City of Grove, and local supporters.
This program is for students, 2nd grade & up, and meets Mondays,
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 4: -5:30 pm each of those days.
The fall semester will emphasize
“Learning Through Performance and Production,” as students will be producing
four plays as part of the In-School Theatre Program in Grove’s upper elementary
and mid-school. “It is our belief that theatre arts training is like any other
form of training,” says Sandy McCabe, Playmaker instructor. “The more you do
it, the better you get. And, casting
young people in plays for other young people is a great way to generate
interest in theatre.”
Interested students will be cast in one
production and learn backstage, technical & design skills for other
productions. New students may receive additional acting training. Two plays will be presented in the fall
semester and two in the spring. More
specific rehearsal schedules will be determined once the productions are cast.
The first session on Sept. 8 will be an
open house for both After-school students as well as those interested in
auditioning for one of the plays. Students
will have an opportunity to sign up for the play and/or training session in
which they are most interested. Parents
may register their children anytime between 4pm and 6pm that day. The
registration fee is $80 / semester per child.
Some scholarships are available.
Sandy McCabe and Suzanne Boles will help orient both students and
parents to the program. The after-school program will follow the Grove Public
School schedule.
Students in these plays who are not attending the After-school program are encouraged to join The Off-Broadway Troupers. The membership fee of $25 per school year will have benefits such as: support for cast/crew parties, free or discounted admission to Playmaker workshops and special events, and support for scholarships for workshops and the After-school program. Students in the After-school program will automatically be members of the Troupers.
