GRAND LAKE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE- 04/01/10

Good Turnout Reported for Rescheduled Harlem Ambassadors

Well, no fooling, we had a good turn out at the Harlem Ambassadors basketball show at the Ketchum High School gymnasium last Friday night.  With some last minute substitutions, we had our full roster for the Two Tree Islanders, our local players that were all sponsored by Grand Lake’s finest businesses.  Once again we would like to thank our major sponsors for this event:  Serenity Hospice, Northeastern Oklahoma Electric Coop and Around the Pond.  Thanks also to REC for the loan of Rick Shirts as coach for our team.

The score had to be adjusted a couple of times to not make it a runaway game.  But still the Harlem Ambassadors topped our team by 20 points.  Several of the players had started “Boot Camp” training that week, but were still winded in their short time on the court.  The star performer for H.A. at one point adopted Kay & Dr. Bruce Howell as her parents to avoid a penalty and even brought Dr. Howell on center court to plead with the referee all to the enjoyment of the crowd.

A great big thank you needs to go to Dr. Rick Pool for helping with the arrangements and for the use of the gym for this event.  He went  above and beyond the call of duty to get the word out and support the event as well as being a referee for the game.

The Ketchum PTA provided hot dogs and lots of other tasty snacks and beverages at the concessions for everyone’s enjoyment.  They are never short of having a good time no matter how hard they are working.

This event could not have taken place without the help of volunteers including Tiffany Green of Pier 13, Jamie Dobbins with All American Outdoor Advertising and her husband, Sam, John Deacon with Grand Lake Promotions and Mayor Joe Johnson, president of Grand Lake Area Chamber.  And not to forget the sponsors of the players mentioned last week.  We appreciate everyone that attended the event in support of The Chamber and the Ketchum Backpack Program.  A grand time was had by kids and adults.

This month our membership gathering will be our annual dine around on Monkey Island where we will go to four different restaurants in groups and enjoy their food and beverage offerings.  The date for this event is April 22 starting at 6:30.  We will meet at Big Shots, gather into groups, then head out to the other restaurants and return to Big Shots for dessert and more fun and fellowship.  Reservations are required for this event so each location will know how to plan for their food.  Tickets are $40.00.  Reservations can be made at 782-3214.

And Just when you thought we were through for the spring our next event will be Grand Lake Softball Tournament on May 15th.  More details to come.  Have a GREAT GRAND DAY!
